What is a depth chart?
A depth chart is the order a team plays its players at each position. The first name is the starter, the second is the primary backup, and so on down the list.
Are depth charts official?
Some teams publish an official chart, but many are deliberately vague. Most public charts are assembled from practice reps, snap counts and beat reporting - which is why sites sometimes disagree.
How often do depth charts change?
Constantly. Camp reshuffles them, a single injury rewrites them, and a bad stretch can bury a starter by midseason. Always check the chart the day you set a lineup.
What does it mean when two players share a slot?
It means a committee - the team either hasn't decided or doesn't want to say. For fantasy, treat both names as risky until one wins the job outright.
Why do depth charts matter for fantasy football?
Because opportunity drives scoring. Touches, targets and minutes come from the pecking order, not from talent alone. The depth chart is opportunity written down.
